Sitting atop Seattle’s bustling Capitol Hill neighborhood lies the historic Loveless building - the crown jewel of praised architect Arthur Loveless. Built in 1930, the building has served multiple roles in its 86 year history, originally as a multi-purpose work space and living quarters for local artists. Currently, the building plays home to a number of local businesses, including the husband and wife team that has been keeping locals dry since 2010. It sounds crazy, but being a successful rain gear company in Seattle is no easy task. Despite the 150+ days of rain each year, Seattleites are notoriously finicky when it comes to owning waterproof clothing or accessories. This makes the success of Freeman ever-so impressive, whose signature jacket has become an icon across the Emerald City.

Scott & Brittany Freeman first built their namesake jacket on a repurposed kitchen table. Since then, the Freeman brand has expanded to include a full line of rain gear specially tailored for the Pacific Northwest. Using locally sourced materials, the duo prides themselves on creating high-quality products the hard way. Each jacket is hand-finished at their E. Broadway headquarters, and carefully fine-tuned until its worthy of the Freeman tag.

This limited edition collaboration is the product of years of research and work towards making the perfect rain jacket. The jacket features a sleek all-black silhouette - a first for Freeman - which has been lined using a custom flannel liner from the storied Collect Co. of Japan. The result is a hybrid of American and Japanese craftsmanship, designed and built in the region of the world that knows rain better than anyone else.

To celebrate the release of this jacket, and the rest of the Made In Washington collection, we’ll be hosting an evening of whiskey and local fares with our friends at Westland Distillery. This will be the first place to get your hands on this limited edition jacket, before its release on Friday, October 7th, 2016.
