Introducing the Pure Blue Japan x Blue Owl Workshop PBO-001 — our first collaboration with the storied Japanese denim label. Built from Pure Blue Japan’s critically acclaimed 18oz unsanforized denim, these jeans have undergone a unique multi-layer dye process in which the indigo warp yarn is over-dyed in black pigment, allowing the jeans to fade from black to indigo while highlighting the fabric’s incredible slub texture.

Designed by the Blue Owl Workshop team, this collaboration stands as one of our most hands-on projects to date. The fabric was custom made for the PBO-001 project, and cannot be reproduced or used in any other capacity. Details were reworked to include nods to Pure Blue Japan’s iconic motifs, while introducing original elements such as the embroidered Blue Owl logo in favor of the indigofera leaf of the same style.

Over-dyed prior to construction, the jeans are unsanforized in nature and will shrink accordingly. If this is your first unsanforized denim, remember to take expected shrinkage into account when picking your size. Reference our shrink test results for your respective fit to give you a better idea of what kind of shrinkage to expect.

The jeans are available in Pure Blue Japan’s standard Slim Tapered fit as well as the new Relaxed Tapered fit, which adds more room in the top block and thighs while maintaining a strong taper below the knee. Available exclusively at Blue Owl Workshop.

To commemorate the release of this collaboration, we will be hosting a worldwide Fade Contest for the PBO-001. Entry is included upon purchase of either model. See the full details below:

Upon completion of the contest on January 1, 2019 — Blue Owl Workshop will collect all photographs and determine the winners, which will be announced via the @blueowlworkshop Instagram and Twitter accounts.

With wear, the jeans will show a varied three-layered fade going from black to blue to white, while highlighting the fabric's incredible slub texture and grain.
