Blue Owl is excited to welcome Attachment to our ever-growing collection of labels.

Attachment began in 1999 under the direction of designer Kazuyuki Kumagai. A pupil of the esteemed Japanese designer Issey Miyake, Kumagai founded his own label to focus on streetwear inspired by military and biker garments. The brand was quickly renowned for their staples - leather jackets, tees, and denim. Their focus on high quality, in-house fabrics, and subtle design choices made the brand stand out from its contemporaries.

In 2007 Kumagai began his signature label, "Kazuyuku Kumagai Attachment", often abbreviated to KKA. This branch was originally designed to be shown in Paris, and incorporated more fashion-forward silhouettes and high-end detailing. The two labels are considered two sides of the same brand, with Attachment focusing on classic tailoring, and KKA on experimental fabrics and unique design.

Both KKA and Attachment celebrate a long history of creating clothing that has timeless style, but unique construction. After 17 years at the head of his own label Kumagai has refined his process, creating collections that are iterative, and focus on fabrics and textures that reflect the progression of his designs.

In his own words, Kumagai wants to design something that is minimal, but builds character through the use of original fabrics. Tailored cuts with detailed stitching continue to define the brand. Our inaugural season features a well-rounded assortment of jackets, coats, tees, and accessories from the Attachment label.

Sitting atop Seattle’s bustling Capitol Hill neighborhood lies the historic Loveless building - the crown jewel of praised architect Arthur Loveless. Built in 1930, the building has served multiple roles in its 86 year history, originally as a multi-purpose work space and living quarters for local artists. Currently, the building plays home to a number of local businesses, including the husband and wife team that has been keeping locals dry since 2010. It sounds crazy, but being a successful rain gear company in Seattle is no easy task. Despite the 150+ days of rain each year, Seattleites are notoriously finicky when it comes to owning waterproof clothing or accessories. This makes the success of Freeman ever-so impressive, whose signature jacket has become an icon across the Emerald City.

Scott & Brittany Freeman first built their namesake jacket on a repurposed kitchen table. Since then, the Freeman brand has expanded to include a full line of rain gear specially tailored for the Pacific Northwest. Using locally sourced materials, the duo prides themselves on creating high-quality products the hard way. Each jacket is hand-finished at their E. Broadway headquarters, and carefully fine-tuned until its worthy of the Freeman tag.

This limited edition collaboration is the product of years of research and work towards making the perfect rain jacket. The jacket features a sleek all-black silhouette - a first for Freeman - which has been lined using a custom flannel liner from the storied Collect Co. of Japan. The result is a hybrid of American and Japanese craftsmanship, designed and built in the region of the world that knows rain better than anyone else.

To celebrate the release of this jacket, and the rest of the Made In Washington collection, we’ll be hosting an evening of whiskey and local fares with our friends at Westland Distillery. This will be the first place to get your hands on this limited edition jacket, before its release on Friday, October 7th, 2016.
